    1. At the age of 51 years, he became the visual inspiration for the original illustrations of Sinestro, the popular super-villain and archenemy of the Green Lantern Corps.
    2. The author Ian Fleming wanted Niven to star as the suave British spy James Bond in Dr. No (1962). However, the film’s producer Albert R. Broccoli turned him down for being too old.
    3. He passed away on the same day as fellow actor , whom he co-starred with in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Stairway to Heaven (1946).
    4. Actor Nigel Havers essayed the role of Niven in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004).
    5. He was the only major British actor to enlist in the military after the start of the Second World War.
