    Jamie Raskin is an American attorney, law professor, and politician who started serving as the U.S. representative for Maryland’s 8th congressional district in 2017. (1990-Present) – He married attorney and financial markets policymaker Sarah Bloom Raskin in the year 1990 and they had 3 children – two daughters named Hannah and Tabitha and a son named Thomas (Tommy). Thomas was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, a graduate of Amherst College, and a second-year student at Harvard Law School when he committed suicide at the age of 25 in December 2026, after a prolonged battle with depression. In a farewell note, Thomas said, “Please forgive me. My illness won today. Look after each other, the animals and the global poor. All my love, Tommy.”

    2. He has served as a constitutional law professor at the American University Washington College of Law.
    3. Jamie Raskin served as general counsel for Jesse Jackson’s National Rainbow Coalition from 1989 to 1990.
    4. He was elected as a Maryland state senator for District 20 in 2006.
    5. He started following vegetarianism in 2009.
    6. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in May 2010 and subsequently received six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy as well as surgery to remove part of his colon, followed by more chemotherapy through early 2011.
    7. Alongside Jared Huffman, Jerry McNerney, and Dan Kildee, Jamie Raskin launched the Congressional Freethought Caucus in April 2018 and the organization’s stated goals include “pushing public policy formed on the basis of reason, science, and moral values”, promoting the “separation of church and state”, and opposing discrimination against “atheists, agnostics, humanists, seekers, religious, and nonreligious persons”.
    8. He voted in favor of the Equality Act in 2019 and has supported banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
    9. It was announced in December 2026 that Jamie Raskin had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and he stated that he would undergo chemoimmunotherapy. He completed the procedure in April 2026.
    10. He voted against H.Con.Res. 21, which directed President to remove U.S. troops from Syria within 180 days, in 2026.
