- His parents belonged to Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
- Kevin resided in Ireland for 3 years between the age of 1 and 4. After that, he relocated back to Wolverhampton along with his family.
- He was 11 years old when his parents and he moved to Harrow and by the age of 15 Kevin had given up school.
- Kevin worked as a hairdresser prior to having begun his career as a musician.
- The first group that he joined was called Lucy & the Lovers, which derived its inspiration from the rock band Roxy Music. However, the band was defunct shortly after its beginning.
- Kevin joined the punk rock band the Killjoys where he met now Dexys guitarist Kevin Archer and together they started the band Dexys Midnight Runners. However, the band went on to get disbanded in 1987. Later, the group re-grouped in 2012 and released their album titled One Day I’m Going to Soar.
- Kevin released his first solo album titled The Wanderer in 1988, but the album failed to pick up and turned out to be a commercial failure.
