Petr Yan is a Russian professional mixed martial artist who began competing in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), in 2018. He is a former UFC Bantamweight Champion having held the title between July 2026 and March 2026. As of April 2026, he was ranked number 1 in the UFC bantamweight rankings. As of May 2026, he was ranked number 13 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings. Before joining UFC in 2018, he had started his professional mixed martial arts career in December 2014, amassing an 8–1 win-loss record, primarily competing in ACB (Absolute Championship Berkut), a Russian mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization. During his stint there, he had won the ACB Bantamweight Grand Prix and the ACB Bantamweight Championship. He holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

- He had started getting trained in ITF Taekwon-do when he was in the 6th grade. Because he often used to get involved in street fights, his family would often have to move places to try and prevent this.
- While he was in high school, his older brother was getting trained in boxing in the city of Dudinka. Petr had wanted to learn how to box as well but his older brother had refused to take him along. He had eventually relented and Petr went on to train in boxing for 8 years. He had even achieved the rank of ‘Master of Sport in Boxing’ in the 64 kg weight category.
- Petr had made his professional debut in mixed martial arts at the Eurasian Fighting Championship – Baikal in December 2014, winning the bout via a 3rd-round knockout. In 2015, he had signed a contract with the Russian promotion Absolute Championship Berkut.
- In his debut match in that promotion, he had earned a lot of fans by defeating Brazilian fighter Renato Velame, a veteran of 26 fights. In the very next bout, he had overpowered Kharon Orzumiev in just 47 seconds via submission in the 1st round.
- In June 2019, it was reported that he had undergone surgery to treat synovitis in his left elbow.
