    Raj Bawa Facts

    1. In the marquee match of the 2026 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, against Pakistan, Raj had produced a stellar bowling spell of 4/56 that had kept India in the game until the last ball off the final over of the match when Pakistan had scraped through to a narrow 2-wicket win. This was India’s only defeat in the 11 matches that they played across the 2026 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
    2. In India’s last group stage match of the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, against Uganda, he had smoked 162 runs off just 108 balls, the highest individual score of the tournament. His partnership of 206 runs with opener , who had scored 144 runs, was the highest 3rd-wicket stand in the history of the tournament. India had scored 405/5 in 50 overs in that match and had defeated Uganda by 326 runs. This was the second-biggest victory margin in the history of Youth ODIs. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
    3. Raj had then played a starring role in the final match, against England, with both bat and ball. He had broken the back of England’s innings, recording figures of 5/31 which had included the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th wickets to fall, a deadly spell in the match where England had collapsed from 37/2 to 61/6. He had then come back to dismiss the last man with England’s score at 189. These were the best bowling figures ever in the final of an ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
    4. A genuine all-rounder, he had started the tournament with a 4-wicket haul against South Africa but had gone wicketless in the next 4 matches before producing this match-defining spell in the final. He was vital in India’s chase too and his measured knock of 35 runs in 54 balls had helped India travel from a tricky score of 97/4 to a much more assured score of 164/5 when he was dismissed in the 43rd over. India’s win was a mere formality from there and he was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his stupendous all-round performance.
    5. For his performances, he was named in the ‘Team of the Tournament’ by both the ICC and ESPNCricinfo.
    6. Raj’s late grandfather, Tarlochan Singh Bawa, was a member of the Indian field hockey team that had won the ‘Gold’ medal at the 1948 Olympic Games. Tarlochan had scored 2 goals in the tournament including one in India’s 4-0 win over Great Britain in the final. This was independent India’s very first ‘Gold’ medal at the Olympic Games.
    7. His father, Sukhwinder Singh Bawa, had coached Indian cricket superstar during his formative years. Raj’s choice of sporting the number ’12’ on his jersey is not just a nod to his date of birth but also a tribute to his idol Yuvraj who used to don the same number.
    8. Interestingly, Raj bowls with his right arm and bats with his left. He used to bat with his right hand, as a child but had switched to the left after getting inspired by Yuvraj.
    9. At the 2026 IPL (Indian Premier League) mega auction held in February 2026, he had been acquired by the Punjab Kings for INR 2 crores (USD 266k).
