Sarah Bloom Raskin studied at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, a comprehensive public high school in Flossmoor, Illinois, and graduated in 1979. She then got enrolled at Amherst College, a private liberal arts college situated in Amherst, Massachusetts, and graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1983. She wrote her undergraduate thesis on monetary policy.
In 1986, she completed her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. Later on, she was honored with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Muhlenberg College on May 19, 2019.

- (1990-Present) – She tied the knot with attorney, law professor, and politician Jamie Raskin in 1990 and they were blessed with 3 children – two daughters named Hannah and Tabitha and a son named Thomas (Tommy). Jamie has also served as the U.S. representative for Maryland’s 8th congressional district. Their son was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, a graduate of Amherst College, and a second-year student at Harvard Law School when he committed suicide at the age of 25 in December 2026, after a prolonged battle with depression. - Sarah Bloom Raskin was nominated by President to the Federal Reserve Board along with fellow nominees Dr. Janet Yellen (president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco) and Peter A. On September 30, 2010, Sarah and Yellen were unanimously confirmed as Federal Reserve Board governors by the United States Senate and they both were sworn in by Fed Chairperson Ben Bernanke on October 4, 2010.
