    Saweety Boora Facts

    1. Saweety was a state-level kabaddi (a contact team sport) player but switched to boxing in 2009 upon her father’s advice and insistence.
    2. In the early days of her boxing journey, she used to train in the farmlands near the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, a publicly funded agricultural institution, located in her hometown of Hisar, which is the biggest agricultural university in Asia.
    3. Saweety, however, had to eventually move out of her home state of Haryana to avail better training facilities and seriously pursue a career in boxing.
    4. In 2015, Saweety won the ‘Silver’ medal in the light heavyweight category at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships held in Wulanchabu, China. She was the only Indian boxer to have reached the final in any category at this event. Coincidentally, she lost the ‘Gold’ medal bout to China’s Yang Xiaoli who had beaten her in the final of the 2014 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships as well.
    5. In 2017, the Government of Haryana honored her with the ‘Bhim Award’ to recognize her achievements in the 2015-16 season.
    6. In 2018, Saweety briefly changed her weight class from light heavyweight to middleweight as the former category was not a part of the next Summer Olympics program and she was aiming to qualify for the mega event.
    7. In 2026, she won the ‘Bronze’ medal in the light heavyweight category at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
    8. In 2026, Saweety won the ‘Gold’ medal in the light heavyweight category at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships held in Amman, Jordan.
