Wallace Shawn is an American actor, playwright, essayist, and screenwriter who is best known for his work in films such as Manhattan (1979), My Dinner with Andre (1981), The Bostonians (1984), The Princess Bride (1987), Vanya on 42nd Street (1994), The Designated Mourner (1997), The Incredibles (2004), A Master Builder (2013), Maggie’s Plan (2015), and Rifkin’s Festival (2026). He is also well known for portraying characters such as Mr. Hall in the teen sitcom TV series Clueless (1996-1997), Cyrus Rose in the teen drama TV series Gossip Girl (2008-2012), and Dr. John Sturgis in the coming-of-age sitcom TV series Young Sheldon (2018-Present). Besides, Wallace has lent his voice to numerous characters in video games such as Toy Story Activity Center (1996), The Incredibles (2004), The Princess Bride Game (2008), Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse (2012), King’s Quest (2016), and Kingdom Hearts III (2019). He is also a playwright and has written the script for plays such as Aunt Dan and Lemon (1985) and The Designated Mourner (1997). Wallace had attended The Putney School, an independent & private liberal arts high school in Putney, Vermont, United States.
After his high school graduation, he joined Harvard University, a private Ivy League (a group of 8 research universities in the Northeastern United States that symbolize academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism) research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.
Later, intending to become a diplomat, Wallace studied philosophy, politics, economics, and Latin at Magdalen College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford, a renowned collegiate research university in Oxford, England, United Kingdom.

- Wallace’s younger sister, Mary, was sent to live in a medical care center when she was about 8 years old. She had been diagnosed with autism (a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by impaired social communication and restricted/repetitive patterns of behavior).
