    Yogeshwar Dutt Facts

    1. He had started wrestling from the age of 8 in his native village and used to idolize a local wrestler who was known as Balraj Pehlwan.
    2. His father had passed away in August 2006, just 9 days before he was scheduled to depart for the 2006 Doha Asian Games. He was also battling a knee injury at that time. Despite the physical obstacle and the mental trauma, he had managed to clinch the ‘Bronze’ medal in the 60 kg freestyle category.
    3. 4 years later, at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, he had overcome another knee injury, a career-threatening wound, to clinch the ‘Gold’ medal in the 60 kg freestyle category.
    4. He had become just the 3rd Indian wrestler to win an Olympic medal when he had secured the ‘Bronze’ medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the 60 kg freestyle category. He had succeeded Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav (‘Bronze’, 1952) and (‘Bronze’, 2008; ‘Silver’, 2012).
    5. For his services to wrestling, he was honored with the prestigious ‘Arjuna Award’ in 2009, the 2nd-highest sporting honor of India; and the ‘ Khel Ratna’ award in 2012, the highest sporting honor in India.
