    Buku Abi Facts

    1. Abi wanted to use a name other than her birth name in her career. Initially, she went by the stage name “Ariirayé”. Then in 2016, she changed it to Buku Abi and has been known by that name ever since.
    2. In 1998, Abi appeared in the video for and R. Kelly’s duet, I’m Your Angel. The single was a huge hit, ranking number 1 in the United States.
    3. In 2000, she was featured in the official music video for R Kelly’s song, I Wish from the album TP-2.com.
    4. In 2015, Abi collaborated with her father, R. Kelly and recorded the song Wanna Be There in order to patch up their severed relationship. The song had appeared in R Kelly’s album, The Buffet.
    5. She released her debut R&B album, Don’t Call Me in 2019, which was produced by her brother Jay.
    6. Abi has spoken out against her father, following the release of the Lifetime documentary, Surviving R. Kelly (2019), which deals with s*xual abuse allegations made against him.
    7. Abi has admitted that she had contemplated suicide during the time she had received online abuse in light of the accusations against her father.
    8. Abi has termed her father to be a monster and has said that she came to know of her father’s misdeeds when she first went to public school as an early teen.
    9. According to her, music saved her life.
    10. In 2019, Abi, along with her mother, appeared on the 3rd season of the WEtv reality show, Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.
